Orange County Notes

Orange county included Rockland County until 1798. In the 18th century, the borders of Minisink were much larger than today. See Wikipedia.

Nehemiah Pattison signed the Revolutionary Pledge in the Minisink District in 1775.  See Martha and Bill Reamy, "Pioneer Families of Orange County, New York," p. 235.

A Nehemiah Patterson is listed as a private in the Sullivan Expedition of 1779, Albert Hazen Wright, "The Sullivan Expedition of 1779," p. 104

Joseph Patterson, Joseph Patterson, Nehemiah Patterson, and William Patterson are listed on the Orange County Assessment roles of 1775.

John Patterson listed in the New Windsor census of 1790.

Nehemiah Patterson was captured by the Oneida Indians along with his son Nathan. Nehmiah escaped a few days later but Nathan stayed with the tribe and eventually married. He came back to visit his original family many times but always returned to the tribe.  This account is from Dr. Charles Milo Bell, who was born Uriah Benjamin Schoonover.

Jeremiah Patterson is listed in the Minisink 1790 Census with 1 male 16 and over, 2 males under 16, and 4 females in his household.  See FHL film 897037, Item 4

Jeremiah Patterson is shown as having 30 acres valued at 50 in the Minisink 1798 Assessment.  See FHL file 897037, Item 4.
